A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-2-39, relating to recognizing outstanding students who are top achievers in scholastic studies.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated §18-2-39, to read as follows:

ARTICLE 2. STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.

§18-2-39. Recognition of outstanding students.

    The board of education is authorized to develop a program relating to recognizing outstanding students in mathematics, science, history, English and their respective subcategories whose scores, based on state administered achievement tests, are in the top ten of all students in the state for each grade level. These students shall receive recognition as being “All State” students in their respective scholastic categories. The program is to be implemented no later than July 1, 2011.




    NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to recognize outstanding students who are top achievers in the state in their scholastic studies.
